Records Management & Archiving Student (Summer Contract)

Temporary/Full Time (7 hrs a day/35 hrs per week)
(Approx. June through Early September)


The position is responsible for managing active and inactive paper and electronic documents that are of important municipal, cultural, and historical significance. The student will work closely with the Records Management Coordinator and other stakeholders to complete the necessary digitization and storage required to preserve the Town’s recorded information.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Digitize and index electronic documents from paper documents.
  • Classify and maintain existing and new documents according to the Town’s Records and Information Management Program.
  • Store documents in accordance with the Town of Golden Records Retention Schedule.
  • Preserve the integrity of documents/files
  • Retrieve, track, and prepare records for eventual destruction (if necessary).
  • Perform record searches when requested.
  • Proactively ensure an environment of mutual respect and professionalism toward fellow employees and in accordance with relevant corporate policy.

Minimal Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Working towards obtaining a diploma/degree in Records and Information Management, or Archival Studies/Library and Information Studies degree is preferred Public/Business Administration may be considered with relevant experience.

  • Excellent organizational skills including the ability to balance competing priorities and assignment of workloads.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize sizable amounts of detailed data.

Recreation Operator

Regular/Part Time (Minimum .6FTE/24hrs per week)
We are seeking a motivated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic person to fill the position of Recreation Operator as an integral part of our dynamic public works team with the vision to advance through successive certifications for facility (arena) operations.  Reporting to the Working Foreman, you are part of a team tasked with various park maintenance, pool related, and janitorial tasks in the summer and in the winter as a member of our arena team.
In summer, your typical duties include operating mechanized equipment such as lawn mowers and tractors, associated implements, light trucks, and hand tools and ensuring the professional maintenance and cleanliness of public areas, grounds, gardens, washrooms, and facilities. In winter, you will operate the Zamboni, small equipment designed for ice maintenance, perform regulated plant and safety checks, and other duties as assigned.
All duties must be performed to departmental procedures, safety policies, municipal regulations, and Work Safe regulations.  The successful applicant must provide upon hire or achieve the minimum certifications below within 6 months thereafter.  This is a position within the CUPE 2309 bargaining unit. Your minimum qualifications and skills must include:
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; 
  • Possession of a valid British Columbia class 5 Driver’s License; 
  • Technical Safety BC’s Refrigeration Safety Awareness Certification;
  • Level 1 First Aid certification;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and deal courteously, tactfully and diplomatically with supervisors, coworkers and the public;
  • Physical ability to carry out assigned duties in all types of weather;
  • Ability to maintain facility maintenance records. 
    If you have these skills or experiences, it would help but they aren’t mandatory:
  • Operation of landscaping and ice resurfacing equipment;
  • Familiarity with refrigeration systems, facility operation, and maintenance;
  • Experience with irrigation systems and maintenance;
  • Possession of a pesticide applicators license;
  • Certification as a pool operator, boiler operator, and playground inspector;
  • Horticulture experience;
  • WHMIS and TDG certification; and,
  • Familiarity with turf management techniques.
