The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) has announced the grand opening of a year-round residential disposal facility for household hazardous waste at the Golden Landfill, 350 Golden-Donald Upper Road, on September 29, 2018. To view the official news release, click HERE.

Residents of the Golden and Area A will be able to drop off oil, oil containers, oil filters, antifreeze, antifreeze containers, and other household hazardous waste free of charge, year-round on Saturdays, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

“Opportunities to recycle household hazardous waste have previously been available through one-day round-up events held every second year,” explains Carmen Fennell, Waste Reduction Facilitator. “This permanent depot will provide residents with convenient, year-round opportunities to dispose of household hazardous waste.”

Residential quantities of household hazardous waste will be accepted at no cost. Materials accepted at the depot include:
• Mercury
• Solvents
• Grease
• Pool Chemicals
• Pesticides
• Tar
• Adhesives
• Paint
• Antifreeze (including containers
• Oil including containers)
• Old Gasoline
• Any item that may be flammable, corrosive, reactive or toxic

Improper disposal of household hazardous waste is a safety concern, as well as an environmental risk.

“The CSRD is pleased to be able to provide this service for the residents of Golden and Electoral Area A, both for the increased convenience, and to help minimize the occurrence of inappropriate disposal,” adds Fennell.
