Access Pickleball and more with a Universal Pass Print Article Font Size
Pickleballers of all levels came out to the Rec Plex this month for the Town’s Pickleball skills Clinic at the Mount 7 Rec Plex.

With the help from some of our passionate Pickleball program volunteers, the Town partnered with some members of the Calgary Pickleball Association to bring the event to Golden. Twenty-eight people came out to learn about Pickleball and get some skills training, with a beginner session held in the morning and a skills and drills session in the afternoon.

“Pickleball is a sport that is seeing tremendous growth across the nation,” says Manager of Recreation Services Jordan Petrovics. “May other communities in BC have robust Pickleball programs and ours is definitely catching on in the community with the help of some of our volunteers. That’s why it was so great for us to be able to bring this clinic to Golden – we saw a lot of regular players and new ones as well that we hope will come out to our drop-in program now that they have a taste of the game!”

Petrovics notes that the Town’s Universal Pass and $5 drop-in format makes it easy to check out one or all of the three drop-in Pickleball programs hosted weekly. In addition, the pass will get you access to all the other great drop-in programs the Town offers.

“This platform goes way beyond a simple pricing structure; it also gives the public an opportunity to host new programing in facilities like the Rec Plex,” says Petrovics. “So no matter how ambitious your idea might be, we have the ability to help your reach that goal.”

There are many safe, fun, affordable and worthwhile programs hosted by ToG Rec Services, including Pickleball, badminton, volleyball, basketball, European Football, Winter Walking and Aquafit. In addition, the pass grants access to Arena programs like drop-in shinny, Parent and Tot Skate, Public Skate, family drop-in puck-and-stick hour and our indoor pond hockey program on Sunday evenings. Pond hockey will add a second night of programming beginning on December 3rd. The popular program will now run on Thursdays and Sundays starting at 9:30 p.m.

Our longest running program, Winter Walking provides a warm, bright and safe alternative to walking on the snow and ice. Music, lots of places to rest and many welcoming friendly faces are some of the things you can expect.

For a great low-impact exercise program, combine your Winter Walking with Aquafit at the Ramada hotel pool. You can do both with a punch pass or your Universal Pass! Our friendly instructors weave cardio, strength, flexibility, tai chi and yoga movements into the workouts.
