Golden Swimming Pool Spring 2019 Schedule Print Article Font Size

As a result of recruitment challenges, the Golden Swimming Pool will be offering a reduced operational schedule for Spring operations from May 18th – June 27th 2019.  The spring schedule can be found HERE.

Seven day a week operations will commence in July 2019.

With a limited team in place for May and June, staff has attempted to accommodate as many programs as possible, while avoiding the full cancelation of existing planned programs:

  • All school groups, group swimming lessons (with full enrolment), Swim Club and Special Olympics bookings will be accommodated.
  • The program diversity including lane swim, public swim and Aqua Fit will all be offered in limited capacity.
  • As additional staff are recruited or re-certified, staff intends to announce additional programming.

Reduction in operational hours include the following:

  • Early Bird Lane Swim will start at 7am
  • Morning Lane Swim on Monday and Wednesday is postponed until July
  • Monday evening Aqua Fit is postponed until July
  • Friday evening Public Swim and WIBIT is postponed until July
  • Masters Programming is pending
  • Closed Sundays until July

In July the pool will have additional staff returning to the facility and the availability of our high school staff will increase capacity allowing the facility to resume regular operations.

Formal recruitment efforts for the 2019 summer season began in February 2019 and is ongoing with the goal to attain enough qualified staff to offer a diverse 7 day a week schedule as soon as possible.  These efforts have included advertisements and postings on various provincial and national websites.

Recruitment efforts through providing local opportunities for public to become Lifeguard Certified continues to be a key priority for Golden Swimming Pool team.  Last spring the Town formed a unique relationship with Golden Secondary School hosting the Lifeguard Academy.  The program was introduced as a Physical Education (PE) credit class that included a curriculum certifying students who met the Lifesaving Society age and skill requirements.  This summer staff will continue to focus on offering various Lifeguard certification and re-certification courses in attempts to recruit future team members.
