Licence and keep an identification tag on your dog. This is your dog’s ticket back home!
The Town’s Animal Control Bylaw requires that the owner of a dog must obtain an annual licence on or before the first business day of January for each dog owned over the age of 4 months.
You can purchase or renew a dog licence at Town Hall located at 810 9th Ave. South or renew your dog licence online. For more information, please contact us at 250-344-2271 or email us.
Dog licence fees help to pay for the costs of tags, feeding and boarding dogs, facility costs--hydro, propane, repairs, maintenance, insurance, etc. and staff costs for catching and caring for the dogs.
Responsible pet ownership
The Town of Golden works with residents to make sure cats, dogs, their owners and neighbours are safe and can enjoy Golden and all it has to offer.
Dogs must be on a leash in the following areas:
- The downtown core, from 10th Ave N. (Highway 95) to the Kicking Horse River and to 7th St. N;
- the Highway 95 bridge that crosses the Kicking Horse River;
- cenotaph Park;
- both sides of 10th Ave. S to the CP Rail overpass just south of town; and,
- along the Rotary trail from the Kicking Horse Pedestrian Bridge to the Municipal Campground.
Anywhere else dogs are free to be off leash, but remember they need to be within eyesight and under immediate charge and effective control.
