This fall, a long-standing community recreation facility received a major upgrade that will make sure a variety of programs can operate safely now and in the future.

The Mount 7 Rec Plex recently reopened with a brand-new hardwood floor thanks to a grant from the Government of Canada and the Government of British Columbia.

“Our Government continues to invest in projects that build vibrant communities,” said the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities. “By replacing the court sports floor at the Mount 7 Rec Plex, we are ensuring that residents of the community can benefit from active and healthy living for decades to come.”

“The design and flexibility of this court creates opportunities for residents to try new sports as well as play the sport they love,” said Nathan Cullen, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “This renovation provides an accessible space for all ages to stay connected and active for years to come.”

The new floor features upgraded sports-court configurations for a safer experience and to address the growing popularity of sports like pickleball. The court configurations also allow for multiple activities to be happening at the same time. The flooring is ideal for a variety of recreational and sporting activities and can support tournament play.

“This project has helped revitalize a historic community facility with ties to many community sports and recreation groups,” said Ron Oszust, Mayor of Golden. “For many years, the Rec Plex has offered a variety of recreational opportunities and community events for residents and the new floor ensures that we can continue to do so safely and efficiently.”

On November 18, 2022, from 4-6 p.m., the Town of Golden will be hosting an open-house at the Rec Plex for community members to come out and view the new floor, ask questions about our programs, and try out the drop-in activities that are hosted at the facility.

The Mount 7 Rec Plex floor replacement was supported through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program - Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure stream, funded by the provincial and federal governments.

The upgrades to the floor complement the other grant-funded upgrades the Rec Plex has received over the past year that have helped to modernize the building, including a new HVAC system and LED lighting –which help to contribute to energy efficiencies for the facility.
