Age-Friendly Golden Plan

In 2013, the Town of Golden (with the administrative support of the College of the Rockies) secured a grant from the Seniors' Housing and Support Initiative (SHSI) to complete an Age Friendly Community Plan (AFCP). The plan was completed in July 2014.

The SHSI was created by the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development to assist local governments to prepare for an aging population.  The Ministry of Health supported the initiative by providing funds to incorporate a focus on age friendly projects.

Age-friendly communities are communities where older people can live active, socially engaged lives through polices, services and structures designed to support them. Visit the Golden Loom website to read more  about the 2014 project.

Age-Friendly Community Plan Update and Modernization Project 2025

Led by Golden Community Economic Development (CED), and with funding provided by BC Healthy Communities and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, the Age-Friendly Community Plan update and modernization project aims to reassess and update the priorities of our older adult population and to identify opportunities, successes, challenges and areas for new growth in alignment with evolving community needs, equity principles and global best practices.

The Age-Friendly Community Plan (AFCP) guides Golden and Area ‘A’ in creating a community that enables older adults to age with dignity and respect and to feel included and valued in community life. Updating the 2014 AFCP and reassessing the community’s age friendliness promotes healthy and active aging and enables more older adults to age in place in our community.
