BC Wildfire reports that there is potential for more fire behaviour today with the warmer weather and a potential risk for thunderstorms with dry lightning. Smoke and increased fire activity may be visible from Highway 95 and surrounding communities.

Yesterday, BC Wildfire crews continued to machine guard both the south and north end of the fire. Crews will continue to focus on priority areas in the interface undertaking direct attack on the fires edge, extinguishing hotspots, and reinforcing and extending contingency lines. A 10-hectare burn was completed successfully yesterday, and crews will be mopping up the southeastern corner. Danger tree assessment and falling is being completed as crews work into new ground.

Today, plans are in place for ignitions approximately 66 hectares in size on the southern end of the fire below the powerline. The purpose of these ignitions is to remove unburnt fuel between the free-burning fire’s edge and established control lines. This will allow for crews to more efficiently contain the fire perimeter. The planned ignition will only proceed as site and weather conditions allow. Smoke from planned ignitions will be highly visible to the communities of Nicholson, Parson and Castledale as well as those travelling along Highway 95. Read the full update at www.bcwildfire.ca
