BC Wildfire reports that the weather today will be sunny with cloudy periods, with the potential for isolated thunderstorms this afternoon with wet lightning.
Yesterday evening, BC Wildfire crews partially completed ignitions on the northern end of the fire. If conditions are favourable, that ignition will be completed today.
Plans are in place for an ignition on the southeast perimeter and will be implemented when site and weather conditions allow. The purpose of these ignitions is to remove unburnt fuel between the free-burning fire’s edge and established control lines. This will allow for crews to more efficiently contain the fire perimeter in the valley bottom. Smoke from these planned ignitions will be highly visible to surrounding communities as well as travellers along Highway 95.
Yesterday, crews were challenged by strong northerly winds that pushed the fire toward the fire line in the southwest corner. Reassessments will be conducted this morning to determine priority work areas.
BC Wildfire crews continue to focus on priority areas in the interface undertaking direct attack on the fire's edge, extinguishing hotspots, and reinforcing and extending the guard on the southern edge of the fire.
