Council and staff are pleased to announce the unanimous ratification of a renewed collective agreement between the Town of Golden and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) local 2309, representing approximately 45 full and part-time workers. The three-year agreement will take effect on January 1, 2026.
“Over the course of five days, the Town and the Union reached an agreement,” said Mayor Oszust. “This new agreement showcases the alignment of both our municipality and its employees to ensure a fair and productive working environment,” said Mayor Ron Oszust.
The renewed agreement prioritizes equity among all Town staff. Historically, inside workers have worked a 35-hour week, while outside workers worked 40 hours, creating a gap in earning potential. Beginning January 1, 2026, all Town employees will transition to a standardized 37.5-hour work week, ensuring greater fairness across roles.
“We are proud to take this important step toward greater equity among our staff,” said Jeremy Denegar, Chief Administrative Officer. “Aligning hours of work ensures fairness while maintaining the high level of service our community expects. These changes will not impact service delivery, and we remain committed to providing reliable and consistent services to the residents of Golden.”
The three-year term includes an annual 3% general wage increase, a commitment to complete a joint job evaluation program during the life of the agreement, expansion of the flex work program and edits to provide further clarity within the agreement.
“This agreement reflects a shared commitment to fairness and inclusivity,” said David Hedges, CUPE Local 2309 President. “We appreciate the Town’s efforts to address inequities and create a more balanced work environment. We look forward to continuing a positive working relationship with the Town of Golden and providing services for the community.”
