The Town of Golden is inviting residents, community partners and businesses to take part in shaping Golden’s future. The Town is kicking off the process for a new Official Community Plan (OCP) update and Zoning Bylaw. This important initiative will help shape the future of Golden by setting a clear vision and policies for growth, development, and community priorities.
The OCP is a provincially mandated document that guides decisions on housing, transportation, parks, infrastructure, climate change, and land use. It designates land for specific purposes and establishes policies that influence how Golden will evolve.
Golden’s current OCP was adopted in 2008. While amendments have been made over the years, the Town recognizes the need for a comprehensive update to reflect current issues and priorities.
“This is one of the most important planning processes for our community,” said Mayor Ron Oszust. “Updating the OCP gives residents the opportunity to help shape Golden’s future in a way that reflects our shared values and aspirations. Every voice matters in that conversation.”
Residents can provide input online through the project Ideashare page and in person during the first round of engagement scheduled for February 16 to 20. For more details, visit www.golden.ca/engage
“We want the new OCP to be practical, accessible, and forward-thinking,” said Phil Armstrong, Director of Planning and Development. “Community input will be essential in creating a plan that supports Golden’s next phase of growth while preserving what makes our town unique.”
Following the OCP update, the Town will begin reviewing and updating its Zoning Bylaw in 2027.
