The Town of Golden and the Golden and Area Emergency Management Program continue to monitor two wildfires in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Area A that are currently marked as Out of Control - Sea Lion Mountain (N41412) and Moose Creek (N41514). According to BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), at this time there is no threat to public safety or structures.
BCWS today issued an information bulletin with the following updates:
Sea Lion Mountain: The fire has increased in size and is still trending northeast. The guard on the west flank is holding. This wildfire is being monitored by air as it is burning in very steep, inoperable and unsafe terrain that is unsafe for crews and is being monitored by air. It continues to be burning away from any values or critical infrastructure.
Moose Creek: Fire suppression efforts were made by helicopter yesterday. This wildfire is burning in a northeast direction, at high elevation and is being monitored by air. At this time there is no threat to public safety or structures.
Bush Arm: A crew was assigned yesterday and is returning today. The fire is a very small (Rank 1) smouldering ground fire. At this time there is no threat to public safety or structures, and no area restrictions are being considered. This fire is now marked as Being Held.
An area restriction has also been issued for the Sea Lion Mountain wildfire and will remain in place until the earlier of 1 p.m. (MST) on October 15, 2026, or until the Order is rescinded. A detailed map can be viewed here.
In addition, effective today at 1 p.m. MST, off-road vehicles (ORV) are prohibited on crown land throughout the Southeast Fire Centre. This prohibition is being put into place to further protect public safety. More information and a map of the area can be viewed here.
