The Town of Golden and the Golden and Area Emergency Management Program continue to monitor two wildfires in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Area A that are currently marked as Out of Control: Sea Lion Mountain (N41412) and Moose Creek (N41514). According to BC Wildfire Service, at this time there is no threat to public safety or structures.
BC Wildfire Service has provided the following updates:
Sea Lion Mountain (N41412): There has been no significant change to this wildfire. It continues to burn primarily in very steep, inoperable and unsafe terrain that is unsafe for crews. Crews completed and reinforced a guard, with support from heavy equipment, along the western flank of the fire where achievable and safe objectives were identified. A sprinkler line has also been established along the southwestern flank. A helicopter remains assigned to this incident to conduct reconnaissance missions, and personnel continue to monitor the fire.
View the BC Wildfire page here for more details.
An area restriction for the Sea Lion Mountain wildfire will remain in place until the earlier of 1 p.m. (MST) on October 15, 2026, or until the Order is rescinded. A detailed map can be viewed here.
Moose Creek (N41514): There has been some upslope growth away from Beaverfoot FSR on the Moose Creek wildfire. BC Wildfire Services continues to monitor this fire regularly. View the BC Wildfire page here for more details.
Hot, dry weather has increased fire activity and growth across the region. Nearby communities can expect more smoke and visible fire activity when temperatures are highest and humidity is lowest.
The Golden and Area Emergency Operations Centre remains activated at level 1 for Wildfire Preparation.
Off-road vehicles: A reminder that off-road vehicles (ORV) remain prohibited on crown land throughout the Southeast Fire Centre. This prohibition is in place to further protect public safety. More information and a map of the area can be viewed here.
