You may have noticed some action on the Rec-Plex Block! As part of the Rec-Plex Park Block Redevelopment Plan, construction is underway on a new year-round washroom, gazebo facility and related site improvements. This project is 100% grant funded. Funding includes remaining Whitetooth Legacy funds and a $400,000 Columbia Basin Trust grant awarded in January.
The new washroom facility is being strategically located to better serve users of the outdoor basketball court and seasonal ice rink. The building is designed for year-round use and will provide convenient access for winter recreation users. The existing washroom attached to the Rec-Plex was not designed for year-round operation and has experienced ongoing servicing and drainage challenges. Once the new facility is operational, the existing Rec-Plex washroom is expected to be closed.
The redevelopment also includes improvements to the former tennis court area. Most of the existing pavement will remain and be repurposed into an expanded skate, bike, and wheel zone, creating additional recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
Construction is currently in progress. Much of the pavement removal required for site servicing and building access has been completed.
The Rec-Plex Park Block Redevelopment project is focused on enhancing recreation amenities, improving accessibility, and creating a more functional and year-round community recreation space.
The washroom is anticipated to be completed and operational for winter skating in January 2027.
The tennis court redevelopment (expanded skate, bike, and wheel zone) will open in June 2027.
