In 2023, the Town of Golden applied for the UBCM Poverty Reduction Planning & Action Program on behalf of the Golden Food Bank Society to support the development of a poverty reduction strategy for Golden. The Golden Food Bank was awarded $50,000 in grant funding to support this work, leading to the creation of the Golden Threads initiative.
Golden Threads is a collaborative initiative of municipal government, social services and community agencies, health services, business leaders, and caring residents of Golden, British Columbia and its surrounding communities. The collaboration began in 2023 for the purpose of developing a 'Common Agenda for Poverty Reduction in Golden and CSRD Area A', a strategic visioning document that will serve to guide, focus and maximize our collective impact through coordinated action.
The initiative is directed by a Leadership Roundtable, a group composed of nonprofit organizations, representatives from local government, residents with lived or living experiences of poverty, and business owners committed to supporting a resilient community where everyone has an opportunity to thrive. Our focus is to shed light on the untold stories of those living with less in our community and engage residents in the development of locally actionable strategies.
