Dike project update: Summer 2021

Concrete and flat work continues as we get closer to the completion of the Kicking Horse River Dike Improvement project. Next, crews will work to install the overhead entrance structures, site furnishings and landscaping, which will complete the beautification aspects of the project. Work is set to be complete by the end of August with a grand opening event this fall.

Stay tuned in early August for a chance to provide your input and to help us name the area!

The Kicking Horse River Dike Improvement Project is funded through The Federal Gas Tax Fund in British Columbia as administered by the Union of BC Municipalities, and represents the largest infrastructure grant the Town of Golden has ever received at $5.87 million. Over 65 per cent of this amount is allocated for this specific area with the rest of the funds used to heighten dikes elsewhere in the community over the last year. The beautification component, valued at approximately $1.2 million, is being funded through the Resort Municipality Initiative.
