Flood Watch for the Upper Columbia

Yesterday, the River Forecast Centre issued a Flood Watch for the Upper Columbia and tributaries. Warmer weather over the past few days has led to increased snowmelt rates and rising river levels through the region. View the advisory here.

The Golden and Area Emergency Program is monitoring the situation and we will provide updates as necessary.

With the potential for increased river flow, we would like to remind residents to use extra caution in and around the rivers during this time:

  • Exercise caution around riverbanks as fast-moving water can cause erosion and destabilization.
  • Warn children about the dangers of fast-moving water, especially if you live near a river.
  • Keep pets away from fast-moving water.

The River Forecast Centre continues to monitor conditions and will provide updates as conditions warrant.
