Skip the traffic and construction and give your vehicle a break! The Town of Golden, Golden Cycling Club and Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce challenge you to bike or roll (skateboard, scooter, rollerblade) as much as possible, to work, school or just for fun, during GoByBike Week June 3-9.
“We have some amazing trails in and around Golden and biking is a great way to stay active, skip the traffic, save your money and connect with your community,” said Mayor Ron Oszust. “It’s not far for most residents to get around town on their bike, scooter or even walking. I encourage you all to take the scenic route this summer and choose active transportation methods over driving.”
Golden has over 40 kilometres of trails, pathways and sidewalks to help you get around Golden by bike, on wheels or walking.
“GoByBike week is a great extension of the Golden Cycling Club’s 30x30 Challenge for the month of May!” said Kelly Cytko, Executive Director, Golden Cycling Club. “We want to keep you riding your bike every day! Let’s pedal together through June. Kick-off GoByBike Week early by joining our bike for mental health on June 1 at the Schach Therapy Race and keep it rolling at the 25th Anniversary of Psychosis on June 22 at Reflection Lake. Come grab lunch and check out the hype!”
To participate in GoByBike Week, register for a free account at www.gobybikebc.ca and explore Golden from June 3-9 on your bike or alternative wheels. Through your account, you can log the number of kilometres you ride each day and enter to win provincial prizes. Any ride counts! If you GoByBike, show us your ride or route with #GoByBikeGolden.
“During peak seasons, we know traffic and parking can be busy in the downtown core, so why not roll, bike or walk instead,” said Melanie Myer, Kicking Horse Country Chamber of Commerce. “I challenge all local businesses to encourage your employees, customers, and clients to participate in GoByBike week. Save gas and money and create a healthier lifestyle with a simple change in your daily routine. There's nothing to lose and so much to gain!”
