Our river monitoring system indicates that an ice flow on the Kicking Horse River occurred around midnight last night. Our Golden and Area Emergency Management Coordinator was alerted right away to assess the situation. Ice debris is high, but water continues to flow from the Kicking Horse River and into the Columbia River.
Town staff continue to monitor the situation and have informed the Province of the event. Given the stretch of weather we have recently experienced, we were expecting another potential ice flow event. This is the third ice flow event of the season.
Please stay away from the river banks as the ice is not stable.
If water is seeping into your backyard, and you need access to sandbags or assistance, please contact the Golden and Area Emergency Management Program Coordinator at 250-344-7473.
As staff continues to monitor the river, we will provide updates should there be any changes.
