National Indigenous Peoples Day 2025

Tomorrow is National Indigenous Peoples Day – a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the cultures, heritage and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. It is also a reminder of the importance of learning about Indigenous history, perspective and cultures in Canada and listening to the voices of Indigenous people in our communities. ⁣

Golden sits on the traditional unceded territory of the Ktunaxa and Secwépemc people, and is the chosen home of the Métis Nation Columbia River Society, along with many other diverse Indigenous people. ⁣

To celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, the Métis Nation Columbia River Society is hosting events and activities at Dawn Mountain. Check out the Facebook event for more details: https://www.facebook.com/events/2247180755802457
In partnership with Kicking Horse Culture, they are also presenting a free event, La Mitchin di Mitchif, at the Golden Civic Centre on June 22. Learn more here: https://kickinghorseculture.ca/events/la-mitchin-di-mitchif/

One of Council’s strategic priorities is advancing Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation through training, purposeful regional engagement, acknowledgement, and consultation. You can learn more about Council’s strategic priorities at golden.ca/council ⁣
