Selkirk Hill closed to pedestrians

Effective this evening, Selkirk Hill (Spruce Drive) from Alexander Park Elementary School to the hill’s crest, near the junction with Selkirk Drive, will be closed to pedestrians.

This closure is a proactive and cautionary initiative by the Town of Golden in response to current weather and snowpack conditions in the region which could pose an avalanche and public safety hazard along this section of road. A crew from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be assessing the slope above the road and taking measures as necessary to ensure slope stability.

This is anticipated to be a short-term closure. Updates will be provided as they become available.

In January 2011, Selkirk Hill was subject to an avalanche event, closing the road for several days until it was cleared by heavy equipment.
