Sewer Maintenance
Over the next few weeks, Superior City Services Ltd. will be working on select sewer mains in lower Golden. This involves flushing the sanitary pipes and installing a lining inside them. While the lining is being put in, nearby sewer connections won't be usable until the work is done and the connections are reopened. Affected residents and businesses will be notified directly by the contractor. You may see crews working around town during this time. The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program funds the majority of this work as part of Golden’s Community Sewer System Enhancements project. The new lining will help renew the pipes and protect them from groundwater leaks.
Sewer Inspection Program
During this time, we will also be completing the first year of a three-year program to inspect the Town’s sewer system using video. This involves flushing the pipes and using a robotic camera to check the condition of 36kms of sanitary collection lines. This will help identify any areas that need future repairs. Superior City Services Ltd. will be doing this work, and traffic control will be in place as needed.
Both the sewer maintenance and inspection work will involve flushing the sewer system. In most cases, the flushing has no effect on the pipes in your home, but as a precaution, we remind residents to do two things during this time:
- Keep your toilet lids closed after use to guard against any potential back splashing.
- Make sure you flush your toilet after each use.
