Swim Lesson program transitions to Lifesaving Society

This summer, the Town of Golden will be offering swim lessons under the umbrella of a long-standing organization – the Lifesaving Society (LSS) of Canada.
Swim Lessons in Golden have long been offered through the Canadian Red Cross water safety training programs, but in 2022, the organization announced its transition out of this programming.

“We’re fortunate because our Aquatics Coordinator, Chelsey, has been working within the LSS programming for well over a decade,” said Director of Recreation Services, Jordan Petrovics. “We are ready and excited to be offering a variety of lessons for every level this season!”

With swim lesson registration opening up in early May, parents are encouraged to visit the Town’s website at golden.ca/swimlessons ahead of time to see a full list of the lessons being offered this summer. There, parents can view the LSS lesson program and compare to find the equivalent Red Cross level.

“The LSS has been delivering nationally recognized, learn-to-swim, lifeguard and leadership training for many years,” said Petrovics. “Folks will notice a change in the names and visuals of the new swim lesson programs, and we’ll work with parents and their children to make sure they are enrolled in the right levels based on their previous Red Cross achievements.”

The Lifesaving Society Canada is widely recognized as Canada’s lifeguarding experts and one of the five leading agencies in providing first aid. Over 1.2 million Canadians participate in its swimming, lifesaving, lifeguarding, first aid and leadership programs each year.
