Construction on phase three of the Trans-Canada Highway Boulevard Enhancements project is scheduled to start in early April. The Boulevard Improvement project includes the installation of decorative large quarry rocks along the frontage areas of the Trans-Canada Highway, topsoil replacements, and extensive plantings of trees and shrubs. Some tree replanting will occur in various locations along the west frontage road boulevard with the majority of improvement work taking place along the east frontage road boulevard. Detours and traffic control will be in-place during construction hours. Work is expected to be substantially completed by the end of June.
This project is fully grant-funded at approximately $1.5 million through the Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI). Golden is one of 14 Resort Municipalities in the province. Through the program, an estimated $14 million is collectively received by this group of communities each year, generated from a portion of the provincial hotel tax, to invest in projects that advance local tourism economies. The RMI program funds projects that must be associated with tourism based amenities and programs and which result in the following key outcomes for resort-based communities:
Extend or diversify communities’ tourism seasons
- Increase/return visitation
- Improve the sustainability of the tourism sector
- Enhance the visitor experience
RMI has been a great success in Golden, continuing to build a legacy of tourism amenities that logically complement the tourism economy, while also adding to the identity of the community and the quality of life of residents. To learn more about the RMI program, visit golden.ca/rmi.
