Work on the Downtown Plaza Revitalization project is set to start within the next couple of weeks! The project will be funded through a combination of the provincially sponsored Tourism Dependent Communities Grant and the Resort Municipalities Initiative.  The new design was informed in part by public input in 2019.

The central downtown plaza (in front of the post office) was constructed in 1987 as part of a downtown revitalization initiative. The plaza represents an important, but underused, public space within Golden’s downtown core. This project will transform the plaza into a vibrant public space, improve functionality, encourage community interaction and enhance pedestrian amenities.

Fun fact: the painted metal components from the current fountain will be integrated into the ongoing expansion of the skatepark!

Once construction starts, residents and businesses can expect heavy construction traffic, noise, vibration and dust in the area during regular business hours Monday through Saturday. Please note that there may be traffic impacts as part of construction, please adhere to all signage and help crews get their jobs done safely and effectively.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during the revitalization project.
