The Town of Golden is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to fill the seasonal position of Gardener, to help us with our seasonal work around town. The position will work approximately 4 months beginning upon hire date, on a full-time basis at 37.5 hours/week.
Reporting to the Working Foreman, the position will help with various grounds maintenance and janitorial tasks and a variety of other labour-oriented projects for the department.
The Gardener position will be primarily focused on upkeep of the numerous municipal planting beds and landscaped greenspaces. All work must be performed to departmental procedures, safety policies, municipal and Work Safe BC regulations and there will be other duties as assigned.
The position is within the CUPE 2309 bargaining unit and paid at a rate of $31.28/hour.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid British Columbia class 5 Driver’s License.
- Level 1 First Aid certification.
- Ability and commitment to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English courteously, tactfully, and diplomatically with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.
- Physical ability to carry out assigned duties in all types of weather.
Ability to maintain facility maintenance records.
While not mandatory, if you have these skills or experiences it will help:
- Operation of landscaping equipment.
- Experience with irrigation systems and maintenance.
- Possession of a pesticide applicators license.
- Certification as a pool operator, boiler operator, and playground inspector.
- Horticulture experience.
- WHMIS and TDG certification.
- Familiarity with turf management techniques.
