Ice Jam Update: January 3, 2022 at 1 p.m.

The ice jam remains stable with no measurable rise in water or ice levels.⁣

Excavation on the north bank of the river along Kicking Horse Trail has revealed a substantial water flow, positively indicating that a portion of the river is maintaining continuity beneath the ice. Excavation at the bottom end of the secondary channel however has revealed deep accumulated water that is not draining at any measurable rate along the southern bank. ⁣

An excavator has been deployed on the south bank of the river downstream of the Kicking Horse Pedestrian bridge with an aim to find the ice blockage on the south bank and increase flow through the secondary channel. ⁣

Provincial authorities and Town staff are on-site and monitoring the situation.
