Notice of Zoning Bylaw Amendment: Bylaw No. 1492, 2024 - R1- R1S Transition

Town of Golden Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1492, 2024 - R1- R1S Transition proposes to rezone approximately 280 properties from R1 – Single Detached Residential to R1S – Single Detached with Secondary Residential.   This notice affects properties on Lafontaine Rd, Gareb Rd, Pine Dr, Deer Ridge Rd, Riverglen Dr, Hemlock St, Poplar St, Cedar St, Fir Cres, Birch Cres, Selkirk Dr, 14th Ave S (upper), Spruce Dr, Maple St and Maple Pl.

This proposed bylaw is the minimum to comply with Bill 44, the new section 481.3(3) of the Local Government Act, which requires that a local government must exercise its zoning powers to permit one or two Secondary Residential Dwellings within zones that that are restricted to only a single dwelling by June 30, 2024. 

The R1-S zone allows for a Single Detached Dwelling and one Secondary Residential Dwelling - either a secondary suite or a Detached Secondary Residential Dwelling (ex. carriage house). The bylaw will be considered for 1st, 2nd, 3rd reading and adoption on June 18, 2024 at 1:15 PM at Town Hall (Council Chambers) 810 9th Ave S Golden BC.

How can I give feedback?

As part of the Provincial Government’s Housing Action Plan and new legislation (effective November 30, 2023) Council is prohibited from holding a public hearing for zoning amendment bylaws that facilitate residential development and are consistent with the Official Community Plan. As such, there is no opportunity to speak to Council in person.

Anyone who considers themselves affected by the proposed application and wishes to register an opinion may do so:

  1. By forwarding written submissions for Council consideration (to the attention of Alysha Saville, Corporate Officer) by: 
    1. Dropping it off at the Town Hall mail slot.
    2. By post (P.O. Box 350, Golden B.C. V0A 1H0). 
    3. By email to clerk@golden.ca (only emails sent to this email will form part of the Council Agenda). 

Any submissions must be received by 12 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, June 13, 2024.
